Lightning at night is my favorite time to watch it. It's more visible, and it really gives you a feel of how powerful Lightning really is. I'm never going to forget the lightning storm we had in August, 2005. The loudest thunder I could possibly imagine, the most eerie-looking purple lightning I've ever seen. It was so MASSIVE! The lightning strikes would light up the entire city like it was daylight. you could see EVERYTHING. Man, I wish I could see something like that, again.

I love the lightning at night if it's like that. These storms had so much freakin rain right on top of us you couldn't see more than a few feet in front of you. All I could see of the lightning was flashes. I'm going to figure out how to set up my camera and try to catch some of the forked strikes.

We had several tornados come through the Carolinas last week. We were under a watch most of the day, but at my house we didn't get much wind. There was heavy rain and flooding in the area all day and a good bit of lightning. Of course it was during the close Duke game with Baylor and they kept cutting in to show the weather. I missed the last couple minutes of the game because of it.

Wow, tornado season is about to hit. Stay safe out there! California weather is so frustrating! The rarest thing around here is to have just a nice day outside. But it's either entirely too hot or freezing cold. Yesterday and today it's been windy and freezing. The day before that? Scorchin'

Where my house is I'm pretty much safe from tornadoes. They can't form in these steep hills. But we have to watch out when going shopping and stuff this time of year because we have to go out into the flat lands to get to much civilization. And that area gets quite a few in the spring - nothing like tornado alley, but they still take roofs off and will blow your darned car off the road. I thought about you yesterday - we had a huge cold front move through and it has been in the 90's so it made for great storms all day long. The lightning actually woke me up. It was the cracking, booming, make you jump kind. The sky was awesome after the front was over us and I got some great rainbow shots.

Man, I wish I lived anywhere remotely close to where tornadoes form. It seems like we've gotten a few tornado warnings these past few years. I heard that one touched down about 20 away just a few years ago, but there's no photo or video evidence.
Those pictures look like they came straight out of a calendar or magazine. Awesome photos.

Thanks, the light was perfect for pictures. We get rainbows in that same spot a lot, but I've never got pictures of one that I was happy with until those. I was feeling crappy and about to lay down when I caught that one out of the corner of my eye. I wound up going out in the rain with no shoes to catch it. ;D

Haha. I'm not one to walk around barefooted. I'm only barefoot when I shower. That's it. I know what you mean about feeling crappy. I still get random back pain on certain days and I'll have to lay down for about an hour before it goes away. But at least it goes away now.

I don't do barefoot either, but I wasn't missing that rainbow. ;D
I'm a socks and sandals guy around the house.

I was behind a jeep just a while ago and the window sticker said: "It's a jeep thing.... You wouldn't understand." Made me think of you.

We had bad storms last night. It's all fun until the power goes out. It was out all night last night.

That's why God invented portable DVD players.

My portable stuff is never charged when that happens. I did read a good book by an oil lamp and that was at least something different I should do more often.

Well, we are leaving in the morning for North Myrtle Beach. It's a resort town on the northern SC coast. Cat 4 - hurricane Earl is headed right at Cape Hatteras which is just north of where we are staying. I truly hope that it misses the Cape and doesn't harm anything, but I couldn't be more excited about getting to see the ocean going crazy. I'm glad I got to see Tears for Fears in Charlotte... because we are supposed to see them again at the beach. Hopefully it doesn't get canceled. 160 mph gusts!
