Man! It's been raining for about 4 days. Trust me I'm not complaining we need it as bad as we ever have. It just amazes me how the weather can stay the same for years then change all of a sudden. Our immediate area has gotten over 7 inches of rain in just the last 4 or 5 hours. I don't remember how long it has been since it rain this much.
We are getting flash flood warnings and I live only 5 minutes from one of the small rivers affected (Green River). I'm going out with my camera now that the sun is coming up to see if I can get some pictures.

OK, update... I couldn't get down the Green River Cove road. It was blocked by firemen who told me that the water was already 3 to 4 feet over the road. I drove around to the other side of the lake (Lake Adger) to see if the river was pushing water over the dam. My best guess is that this only happens once or twice a decade on average. I'm 37 and I only remember seeing it maybe 3 to 5 times. This is the worst I've ever seen it! And I've never heard anything like it either - I wish I had that much bass in my home theater system! Lake Adger dam is a dry dam... (a term I made up) meaning water is not supposed to flow over it. It has pipes or tubes or whatever for the drainage to go through so that enough water passes to keep Green river at it's normal size. These aren't great pictures I realize, but they are all I was willing to take risking my camera in the pouring rain. To get an idea how much flooding is taking place here, keep in mind I don't live in a swampy area - we don't have trees that grow in water hehe...

They are calling it a hundred year storm. I think upper Ga got hit the worst. It finally dried out some here today, it's the first day that it hasn't rained in about a week. It does appear to be clouding up again though.

Man. I LOVE rain. Wish I were around there! Seriously, you are welcome anytime. I think Blackcat is coming to see us in April. I'm not one of those internet psychos and even if I was I'm sure you could still beat me up hahahaha. Not promising much rain though, that's the first week long rain we've had in many years. Come in the late Spring early Summer and you'll most likely catch a thunderstorm or three. I wanted to get some more flood pics but they had the roads blocked off to all the good spots... which is a good thing as dumb as people are.

Yeesh! Here it comes again... I just got this off the local radar. It's already rained earlier and the thunder was so loud it was rattling the glass doors when I was in the shower.

If the lightning is really close it does that. If it is a few miles away then it just rumbles like a really loud earthquake which is when the windows and stuff will vibrate. Every once and awhile the storm will sneak up on you and the first bolt will be really close. Those will make you jump because you are not expecting it.

It seldom storms in the desert up here. :/ But I'll always remember that horrific lightning storm (the one I wrote about on HMFC) just a few years ago. Every single lightning strike for hours.... Crr-r-r-r-r-rraaaaaaaa-a-a-aa-ack BOOOOOOOOM!! I loved it, and it lasted all throughout the night. Couldn't sleep much, though.

Yeah, those are fairly common here but mostly in the Spring and then some during the hottest summer days. Rarely do you see anything but light rain in the winter. I think that was the end of it for this year. The cold front bringing fall in brought those last storms with it.

Here comes Tropical storm Ida. We are on the rainy side of the storm and we already got thick clouds from it today. They are calling for two days of heavy rain here... up to eight inches.

Man.. I wonder what Tampa Bay must be like, then. Lightning occurs more in Tampa Bay than anywhere in the world.

Man.. I wonder what Tampa Bay must be like, then. Lightning occurs more in Tampa Bay than anywhere in the world. Florida is wicked when it comes to weather. It's cool to me when I'm there if I don't have to travel in it. But, lots of the storms there are just totally unnavigable (I think that's the first time I ever used that word). We get weather like that in the Spring and Summer some here, but there can be thunderstorms all the time in Florida. We are really not that far from Florida here, but we are far enough north that we get some what of a winter. TS Ida has dumped a lot of rain on us, but we didn't get the 8 inches they said was possible. If I had to guess I'd say 4. Should be some awesome cloud formations tommorrow... it's always like that after a tropical system - windy and partly cloudy with spectacular sunrises and sunsets. I may stay up all night to catch the sunrise to get some pics with my new camera. These are the radar captures of Ida over us. The first is before it started raining hard here and the second is when the heaviest was right over us. I've never seen the circular waves on a radar before... I'm thinking they might be a glitch, but I'm not sure. There was not much wind with it here.

Man, that is just too awesome. I'm guessing ever since the turn of 2009, we've had, maybe, a week of rain. Out of all these days of 2009, we've had a total of about a week of rain.... Oy....
