If you can stand the bad dubbing (which makes it funnier to me) the Godzilla films are good - especially the ones they have made since the 90's.

Jason, where do you buy your DVD's? Online, pawn shops, new or a mix of different places.

I have a ton of them myself but I got most of them used and on sale.

I mostly get mine at www.deepdiscount.com They have AMAZING deals there. I got The Nightmare on Elm Street box set for about 23 dollars a few months ago. If that's not a deal I don't know what is.
Next would be Best Buy and a Pawn Shop about 30 seconds from my house. I know them really well. I get discounts sometimes. I had a job in realty cleaning abandoned houses for a while. I found about 5 movies. 2 of which I gave to my girlfriend. Click and The Boogeyman. One which I kept. Space Jam. And 2 that I traded at the Pawn Shop. The Return of the Pink Panther and Air Bud. I traded both of them for No Country For Old Men and another one I can't exactly remember what I traded for. I think it was Rob Zombie's Halloween. But I got them free of charge with the two movies I traded in. So I do get pretty lucky with movies.

I'd say about 80-85% of all my movies came from either Deep Discount.com or The Pawn Shop.

I love movies, watching and collecting them. I was just starting to get into blu-rays when my RA got so bad and I lost my job. I hope to be able to pick it back up if my disability ever comes through.

Do you like the collector's editions or do you just go for the movies? I like to get pimped out versions if possible but if it's cheap I just get the plain ones.

That's exactly what I do. If it's a movie I love, though, like Psycho or Casablanca, I usually go for the big time collectors edition.

I'm terrified of Blu-Ray. I've been collecting DVD's for so long I'm scared they'll go from DVD to Blu-Ray like they did VHS to DVD.

I'm still not sure if blu-ray will be THE thing to take over... but something will. The advantage that DVD has over VHS is that... tapes sucked! The more you watched one the worse it got. If you take care of DVD's they will last longer than we will, and the look the same on the 100th viewing as they did on the first.

I use my PS3 blu-ray player to watch most movies on my hi-def flatscreen. It upconverts the old DVD's to hi-def and they really look and sound great. The actual blu-rays do look outstanding but they don't (IMO) look so much better as to pay $20 more for them.

To give you an example I get Cinemax on my Directv and I "Tivo" most of the HD movies. I did a little test this week to see which looked better - An upconverted DVD or the Hi-Def movies on Directv. I used Transformers as the test movie and watched several of the same scenes in each format. It wasn't even close to me. The upconverted movie looked way better and the sound on DVD's are 5.1 surround so it definitely sounded better.

What I described above is the problem blu-ray has... they are trying to market a product that is better, but not "knock it out of the park" better as DVD's were to VHS movies. The old product looks pretty good on their new players and cost a fraction of what the new product does. If blu-ray doesn't drop the prices on the players and the movies soon... it will not survive.

They should have waited a few more years until HD televisions were in more households. To me that is the key. I'm the only one out of all my friends and family that has an HDtv. (Lol I'm just a tech geek). Blu-ray is useless without an HDtv.

If I had just a LITTLE but of money, there would be a 60 inch flat screen in my room right now. haha. But money is so tight, especially in California, it's hard for me to even afford DVD's anymore.... But I somehow sneak a few into my collection. Haha.

Man, I bet money is tight out in Cali - if it's tight here in the insignificant sticks ;D Nothing usually gets to us here we usually just watch the TV and see everything happen everywhere else, but we were not safe this time.

I always wanted a big 50 or 60 inch TV but I figured I'd never be able to afford one so we got a decent digital projector. It makes movies huge on our wall (like 6x10 feet) and still crystal clear if you use s-video cables.

For a TV I just settled for a 36 inch Walmart Special HD set. It works great for me in my little office.

Here's to hoping money gets at least a little easier so us movie dorks can go back to enjoying life ;D

Man. That digital projector must be great! It gives you 20 more inches than the wal Mart HD you bought, AND it saves room!
I never even knew they made things like that for the public.

Lol, it gives me nearly 100 inches over my TV... and it would be more than that if I could back it up any farther hehehe. If you have a nice white wall or a place to hang a 10 x 6 ft. white screen you should check into them. They are relatively inexpensive compared to big screen TVs and your picture will be just as clear and waaay bigger than the biggest TVs available.

You can get ones like mine for well under 300 bucks now and you can probably get an HD one for under 800. Not in stores though, check Amazon or Best Buy online. BB does instore pick ups for online sales.
