I was pretty hesitant with CCR, Haha. Much like your rankings with Tom Petty and Tears For Fears, I LOVE them all, but I'm gonna go ahead and try CCR!

Who'll Stop the Rain is far and away my number one Creedence song. Probably in my top 5 songs of all time. When I was a young kid, my dad and I would always let the dogs run around the yard for hours at a time and I'd ride my bike and hangout with my Dad while he blasted music like this on his Dad's speakers (He had a band, Rocky and the Old Timers. He was Rocky. ).

As time went by, we just stopped playing the music and doing things outside. His work hours incresed enormously and by the time he got home, he wasn't in the mood for rockin' I got into my teen years and developed taste in the newer music. I was never a real die hard music fan of any of the newer stuff. It would sound good to me and then I'd move on to a different song.

Then around the 10th or 11th grade I heard this song on the radio and it brought me right back to those days spent with my Dad and my dogs outside. This, you could say, is the song that got me right back into classic rock. I've never stopped listening to music like this ever since. I never got tired of it like I did with the new music that would come and go. Classic Rock has withstood the test of time for me. I just can't get enough of it! I guess I have my dad to thank for that. ;D

On a side note, my first favorite song (that I can remember) was Tom Petty's American Girl and Listen To Her Heart. They would fluctuate from time to time, but those were my two favorite songs ever when i was a kid.

Outlaw country music has a similar place in my life. My Dad listened to Waylon, Willie, Hag and the like constantly. Around 4th or 5th grade, Michael Jackson and MTV came along and introduced many of us country folks to rock n' roll. Country wasn't cool anymore and I developed a love for a wide diversity of music that I still have today.

Somewhere down the line as I got older, the themes and lyrics of my Dad's music began to mean a lot to me. I look like them, I talk like them and for the most part I was brought up like them and live like them... so it seemed pretty lame not to embrace these country legends.

My dad is a massive Hank Williams fan. I've been REALLY getting into him, lately. I don't know if you're too familiar with his music, but in my opinion, when it comes to country, this guy is almost untouchable!

When he sings the blues, you can really feel it in his voice. You can tell that this man is truly hurting and it really brings out the emotion of a song. "There's A Tear In My Beer", I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and "Your Cheatin' Heart" are some great examples.

Oh - and Jason - my favorite Hank Williams songs are similar to yours! But my all time fave, gets me every time is I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry. One of my favorite lines ever in music is in that song -

Yeah, Bella. I know EXACTLY what you mean. There's a reason why that song is widely considered to be the greatest country song of all time! There are lines in a lot of his songs that I can relate to so closely, it's almost scary. My personal favorite country song of all time is actually by Hank Williams, and it's Ramblin' Man!

Bella, I love Sunday Morning Coming Down also, but I like Kris Kristofferson's version a bit better. My favorite recording of it is by Shawn Mullins... it sounds like it was meant for him to sing it. You guys should check that out if you haven't heard it.


As far as the Outlaws... to me that is Johnny, Willie, Waylon, Hag and Kris... I've never got into David Allen Coe - too racist for me.

Kawliga was a massive hit by a guy named [[Charlie Pride]] back when I was growing up. That's where I first heard it in the 70's. That's a good version too, but now I believe I like the Hank version a bit better.
