About a year or so ago, my fiance and I were thinking of a movie to watch. I have always had a huge amount of DVD's with some VHS. I remembered that I had the movie Arachnophobia on VHS! I remembered distinctly where it was, as well. It was inside my TV stand underneath the television. So as we're going to grab I notice that a newly spun spider web had formed. What was odd, was that it was formed AROUND the movie Arachnophobia!!
I don't consider myself a spider expert, but I know quite a bit. I know that the Black Widow Spider seldom leaves the nest unless forced. (This was a Black widow by the way) So I knew we were safe watching it in the living room. Even with the lights off. So she trusted me, and we watched it, but she was freaked out throughout the entire movie. Needless to say, everytime I see it, I get itchy and jittery as well.
A few days later, I decided to capture her and set her into a field.

That's pretty nuts! I love spiders and I love that movie, I just watched again a few months ago. I have a similar (well sort of) experience. I posted it on another board and it's long so I'll try to dig it up and repost it. On another note, I caught two male black widows this week. I have never really seen any spiders like this before. We have tons of bw's around here but never marked like these. I put them in a bottle and was going to let them go after taking some pictures but now it's actually snowing here and I'm going to wait till' it warms up. I hope they live that long.

I'm not 100 % sure that those are Black Widows. You could be right, but I know there are a series of many different spiders that fall under the "False Widow Spiders" category. Which means those spiders are often mistaken for Black Widows. But I'm not a spider expert. Those, by the way, have a VERY interesting pattern to them. How neat!

I'm no expert either but I put these on a bug forum and those dudes told me they were male - southern black widows. They have the classic hourglass shape on their bellies... They're probably right. But who knows for sure. When I become an Arachnologist, I'll let you know. (I've actually consider going to school for that recently ) I kept telling them to flip over so I could get a picture, but for some reason they wouldn't listen... maybe male widows are deaf I laughed out loud upon reading your post. Haha.

These are the black widows that usually overtake the garden out front.... Evil looking little suckers aren't they?

Those are cool. That's what the ones around here usually look like. I like them but I don't handle them or anything. I just let them be as long as they are not somewhere my kid might be playing... then they have to enter the MIB relocation program ;D

Wow. I liked your story! I wish I had some interesting stories like that to tell! I do have one, though. Back in 2000 my family and I were visiting my grandparents. My grandmother had cancer and we wanted to spend as much time with her as we could. She told us a story about her little things around the house. Which led her to a story about her parents and their spirits. She was certain that her mother always comes to visit her. She explained that her wind chimes outside would often go crazy even on days that didn't have a breeze. I don't exactly remember why she believes it was her mother, but she was certain. Later that night, I was in the guest bedroom watching tv. Something tempted me to look down the hallway. So I did, and I witnessed, plain as day, a spirit of a woman fly into the room. I didn't stick around to look and felt surprisingly calm. More calm than I thought I would be, that's for sure. All I know, is that the spirit was a woman, I witnessed her float over my head and look at me, which is when I decided I should leave the room. Not the most interesting story, but the closest experience I've come to a ghostly encounter would be that one.

Haha. Here's a view of where the spider was... Arachnophobia (The Movie) is actually still there. Haha.

Maybe the spiders just wanted to see the movie. While it fits in the horror/comedy genre for us humans... the spiders classify it as a tear jerking tradgedy
