We spent the last several days in Spartanburg, SC with my son David in the hospital. He had some horrible virus and was badly dehydrated and had dangerously low blood sugar. He is home with us now (thank God) and has been able to keep his food and liquids down for the first time in nearly a week.
I don't wish this experience on anyone. There is no more helpless feeling than having to watch your child suffer like that. He was so dehydrated that they had to try over a dozen times to get an IV started. His veins kept collapsing. The lady doing the IV had tears in her eyes and was praying as she finally got it started. He has bruises all over both hands and arms from all the times they tried. I could only stand there wishing with all my heart that it was me instead of him.
I have a whole new kind of respect for parents whose child has a long term illness. They are my new heroes.
Please keep David in your prayers and thoughts
