Just a general discussion thread for the NFL. Talk all the smack you want, but let's keep it lighthearted. I don't want to have call a personal foul on anybody ;D

Anybody have a preseason favorite to win the SuperBowl? I really liked the Giants chances until [[Osi Umenyiora]] went down. Their D-Line was on the brink of being legendary... but without Osi and [[Michael Strahan]] we'll just have to see...
I'm not a big Dallas fan but they definitely have all the tools to win the big one. The Boys just have to break out of their "choke" mode they've been in for the past couple of years. I'm going to have to say right now that they are my pick in the NFC.
AFC is harder for me. New England may actually be on the decline, but how many times have we thought that before. The Colts are always a contender with [[Peyton Manning]] and right now they are my pick in the AFC. I'm going on record though: Watch out for Pittsburgh! They are my sleeper team that everyone is forgetting about.

Can't say right now... Unfortunately I missed every game Sunday as I worked a double shift, so I haven't seen anyone in play yet.
But... GO PANTHERS!!! hee hee

The Panthers game was awesome. Definitely an instant classic. But, Jake Delhomme looked like such a doofus running around after the winning touchdown LOL. That's why we love him though. FOX then dished out no respect for Dante Rosario and his winning catch as they put up their leaderboard with his stats by the name of actress Rosario Dawson - causing an ESPN analyst to make a really bad joke involving the word tight-end... She had a pretty good game

Well, I'm football happy right now. It doesn't happen too often that the Dolphins and Panthers both win in the same week.
I'm telling you though, I had a feeling about Carolina after I spent several days at their training camp this Summer. They just seemed to have a winning attitude in the air. I mean it was over a hundred degrees everyday I was there and they were all going game speed with an attitude... just ask Steve Smith and Ken Lucas how intense it was. I even got to talk to Coach Fox for a minute and I told him that I really hoped that they had a good year. He just looked up at me from signing an autograph and smiled a knowing smile. I'm not saying they will definitely go all the way but I do know they will be in every game and I think they will win their division easily.

That was the wackiest week of games I ever remember. What a bunch of unexplained upsets The Cowboys just picked up Roy Williams from the Lions for a first, third and sixth round draft pick. I'm not sure he's worth it but it does make their offense that much more scary.

I predict they'll win the division, but it's a pretty strong one with Tampa Bay and atlanta on their tail. New Orleans isn't bad either. I think, aside from the NFC East, the NFC South is one of the strongest divisions in the NFL. I only hope, for my sake, that the Chargers keep blowing games. It'll only put on top. Oakland and Kansas City pose little to no threat at all for the AFC West. Hopefully Denver goes into New England and beats them bad like the Dolphins did.

I'm still missing so many games, sadly. Hated to hear about the Panthers game this week, but it happens. Just wish it hadn't been to Tampa Bay!

Tampa is looking good but they are always such chokers. Carolina won big this week, but it would have been closer if Reggie Bush hadn't got knocked out for the 2nd half.
How bout' them Cowboys LMAO ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I never saw your good luck post. Yeah, well, you're 2-0 against my team this year. Both games were pretty decisive, too.

I looked up some pretty interesting information between the two greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. It really bugs me that Dan Marino never got a Super Bowl title.
Dan Marino - 420 TD Passes John Elway - 300 TD Passes
Dan Marino - career 61,361 yards John Elway - career 51,475 yards
Dan Marino - season best 5,084 yards John Elway - 4,030
Dan Marino - season best 48 TDs John Elway - 27
Games Started (Regular and Post-Season) John Elway: 252 Dan Marino: 258
Seasons played: John Elway: 1983-1998 Dan Marino: 1983-1999
Regular Season Record: John Elway: 148-82-1 Dan Marino: 147-93-0
Post-Season Record: John Elway: 14-7 Dan Marino: 8-10
Pro Bowl Appearances: John Elway: 9/16 Dan Marino: 9/17
Super Bowl Appearances: John Elway: 5 Dan Marino: 1
Games won between each other: John Elway: 1 (1998 Season) Divisional Playoffs: 38-3 Dan Marino: 2 (1985 Season) 30-26 (1998 Season) 31-21
Last game: John Elway: Super Bowl XXXIII def. Atlanta Falcons 34-17 Dan Marino: Divisional Playoffs: Loss, Jacksonville. 62-7
They are 2 of the 3 quarterbacks to pass for over 50,000 yards.

Well, to me they are two of the best if not THE two best qbs in history. It's hard to compare and say who is actually better. They are quite different. Elway had the super arm strength, speed and mobility and Marino had the quick release and accuracy. They won games in different ways.
I don't guess I'll ever get over Marino not winning a Superbowl. I'm glad that Elway finally did. Denver and Shanahan finally got a team around him with TD (one of my favorites also) that could go all the way. Marino never even got a 1000 yard rusher nor a top reciever. And we all know Miami never had a defense while Dan was there. While to me not having that ring doesn't keep Marino from being the best of all time... sadly history seems to judge him harshly for not having the hardware.
That's why I'm glad Elway got his. I argued for years that Montana was not a better qb than Marino... I always said that Joe was not even as good as Elway. Elway was never even in the equation of the top two or three until he won those Superbowls and that never made any sense to me. Elway or Marino never had the ridiculous Pro Bowl teams that Montana had in San Fran.
I mean just look at this! The Cowboys were the same way until the league finally started enforcing the salary caps and regualations. I could have won Super bowls with this team. They had nothing short of Pro Bowlers and HOFers at nearly every position for over a decade.
Jerry Rice, John Taylor, Roger Craig, Ronnie Lott, Harris Barton, Tom Rathman, Charles Haley, Ken Norton, Dwight Clark, Wes Chandler, Russ Francis, Brent Jones, Guy McIntyre, Matt Millen, Bubba Paris, Bill Romanowski, Fred Smerlas, Keena Turner, Wesley Walls, Ray Wersching, Michael Carter

I could NOT agree more. I've always argued that Montana was nowhere near as good as Elway or Marino. Those two just set themselves apart from the rest of the league. I don't see ANYONE coming close to how great they were. I doubt I'll even live to see it.
