Pfff. I don't mind driving for long periods of time. I imagine I'll be doing most of the driving when Chris and I end up going, anyways. We definitely need to plan a day for my upcoming trip for the three of us to meet somewhere. I have no idea what we'd do, or where we'll even meet. We could probably just stop by your place, or a restaurant nearby and have lunch. Whatever we think of should be fine, either way, though. I'm definitely interested in doing these road trips as often as I can. I love camping and would love to do a road trip with you sometime. I have a great job, so I don't want to have to continuously ask for weeks off at a time, but man, honestly, if I had the money to do anything, I wouldn't buy a house or a mansion in Beverly Hills. The first thing I would do is buy a badass car and live on the road for as long as I wanted. Rockin' out to great tunes along the way. Especially now, with the way my marital life has been

Well, I'll say it again you and your buddy are welcome here. I've got plenty of room (for hickville anyways) and plenty of extra couches and mattresses and stuff.
And like I said, I wasn't really trying to butt into your upcoming trip as I know you've already got it planned out. I'm just sticking my foot in the door for future reference. I don't want you to think I'm some psycho or something either... my road trip offer is a standing one with multiple friends and family members. If I keep enough offers out there every once and awhile somebody takes me up on it ;D That's how that last fishing trip came up that I went on for a few days.
All that said, I bet you and I could kill a road trip if we ever get the chance.

Haha. Don't worry about me thinking you're a psycho. I do the same thing. The EXACT same thing. Also, you're not butting into the trip at all. The first thing that came to my mind was just how close you lived to LP Field so that we might be able to meet you somewhere or stop by. It's already less than 3 months away. I've been so stoked for the NFL season as it is, this is a Week 3 game, I believe.

Well, actually I am a psycho... but I'm a perfectly harmless psycho

Good. Either way, I wouldn't mind befriending Norman Bates.

Question! What's a good amount to save for this trip? It's almost exactly 2,000 miles from here to Nashville. I plan on driving through Colorado, though, which might take a bit of extra time. Also, How long do you think i t would take to get there?

It depends on if you already have the game tickets bought and if you have a place to stay when you get there. Marii and I always try to pick up a motel 6 guide that has all their motels listed everywhere. They are usually clean and nearly always cheap (averaging 35 to 45 dollars a night). If you are driving straight through without any side trips, aside from Colorado, just stopping to sleep at night, you should be able to make it in 4 days, but that's a lot of driving in a short time, so you might want to take it slower if possible. Marii and I came from New Mexico all the way home in 2-3 days once... stopping overnight in Oklahoma City and then somewhere in Arkansas. You should figure 250 dollars just traveling gas and allow for 60 per night motel fees. A cooler with sandwich stuff will help greatly toward food expense too. Your 1,500 savings plan should be way more than enough, unless you plan on going fancy and buying tons of souvenirs... but, having extra cash is always a good idea in case of emergencies. One of my biggest pieces of advice is to go ahead and get AAA's gold service for a year if you don't have it. It's less than 100 bucks and it covers 3 tows up to 100 miles each. They also will bring gas and locksmith help if needed. The piece of mind alone is worth it, not to mention a lot of times you get a discount at motels with the card. And Norman Bates... nah, I'm more Bill Murray kind of psycho

I've got the AAA service. I've still got 3 tows to use, so maybe I'll just have them tow us halfway there while we sit in my truck so we can save gas. ;D
I was hoping 1,500 would be enough. I plan on sleeping in my truck to save money. It shouldn't be too hot in the end of September. I also just planned on eating at random restaurants or fast food places. As for driving, I imagine we'll stop at a place or two every day. Whether it be just to eat or visit an interesting place. Altogether, I would guess we'll be driving on average about 12 hours a day.
I'm not sure what to do about showering, though, or washing clothes. I'm debating whether to bring two weeks worth of clothing, or just stop and do laundry at a random laundromat every few days. Also, how many days do you think I should request off?

I thought about it and I figured I might have sounded confusing on the gas, but you're probably smart enough you knew I was talking about the cost one way on the gas part. Plus, you might use less depending on your gas mileage, of course.
If you are sleeping in your truck, you can try to hit interstate truck stops. The big ones usually always have showers. I'd advise taking sandals to wear though, to cut down on the chance you'll get athlete's foot. State Park and National Park campgrounds are perfect too... they usually cost under 25 bucks a night (sometimes much less) and they are safe, interesting and have bathrooms with clean, hot showers (I still wear my sandals) - just look for the ones with the shower symbol on your atlas.
As far as the time off goes, that is totally up to you and how much time you want at your destination. I'd plan on no less than 8 days driving time. When we made it from New Mexico in a little under 3 days, I drove for about 20 hours straight the last day.

I knew about those interstate truck stops, but I always thought they were for truckers only. Yeah, I know what you meant about gas. I've got that calculated already. Chris and I are going halves on gas, but we'll be using my truck. As for sandals, I haven't worn sandals since 1992, I think. Probably even before that. I work in the 110 degree heat in Barstow and I got rid of the athletes foot quickly. Now my feet are adjusting. I'll probably be fine. I'd rather deal with athletes foot than wear sandals. Because I'm a weirdo. I live in Southern California and I NEVER WEAR SANDALS. Have you ever heard of something as weird as that? Haha.

Yeah, me...
I don't wear sandals out either... I just take flip flops to put on in the showers. Must be that dry heat out there. Here the hotter it gets the wetter it gets and the worse the athletes feet get. Yuck.
